CMDA as a Restricted Major

Change of Major Sessions

If you are currently not a CMDA major, but are thinking about: switching your major to CMDA or adding CMDA as a secondary major, follow the steps below to learn more about the internal transfer process and how to get started.

  1. Visit the CMDA Change of Major site
  2. Sign up for a virtual CMDA Change of Major Information Session (coming soon)
  3. Apply during Change of Major season (fall, spring, summer)

Information sessions are held: 8/5/26, 9/2/26, 10/6/26, 11/4/26, 12/2/26

Requirements

To change their major to CMDA, students must:

  1. Upon having attempted 12 credits of courses designated as counting for the in-major GPA (including credits from withdrawn courses), students must have an in-major GPA of 2.0 or better.
  2. Have an overall GPA of 2.0.

Appeals Process

Students may appeal change of major decisions. If you believe there is new or compelling information that was not previously considered and may impact the outcome, you are welcome to submit an appeal by emailing your request to cmda-advising@vt.edu. In your appeal, clearly identify which of the two criteria you are addressing, and provide any new or additional information relevant to that specific criterion.
