Student Information

Students from all academic majors and academic levels are welcome to attend the Data Science Connections Career Fair. While registration is not required for this event, it is highly encouraged.

The fair is scheduled 10 a.m. — 4 p.m. in Owens Banquet Hall. We recommend checking in no later than 3:30 p.m. to allow time to speak with employers. A Hokie Passport is required for check in.

Resume Review: You are encouraged to have your resume reviewed prior to the fair. If you need to polish your resume, you can make 15-minute mini-appointments with an advisor in Career and Professional Development.

Day Of: Take note of these instructions/reminders to have a successful career fair experience:

  • Bring printed copies of your resume with you to share with employers (they like to take notes while talking with you).
  • Dress to impress! Business casual (or nicer) is expected.
  • When you enter the fair, first stop at the registration table to get a printed name tag, then drop off your bag before visiting employers.

Employer Information Sessions

  • Wednesday, Sept. 16: Global Technical Systems (GTS)
    7-8 p.m., Data & Decision Sciences 150
    Join Dale Sisson — Vice President of Integrated Defense Systems at Global Technical Systems (GTS), retired Navy Senior Executive, and proud Hokie — along with Dr. Jenn Clift, Director of Integrated Defense Systems at GTS, for a conversation about career paths and opportunities in the defense sector. This session will provide an overview of GTS and highlight the exciting challenges shaping today's defense environment. We will also discuss how the skills and knowledge developed through the CMDA curriculum translate into defense capabilities and support current mission needs at GTS.

  • Monday, Sept. 21: Accenture Federal Services (AFS)
    7-8 p.m., Pamplin 30
    This event, organized by the CMDA Club and Women in Data Science (WiDS) at Virginia Tech, features panelists Zaineb Qadri, Eliza Asbury, and Renzo Silva, who will share their experiences working at AFS and discuss how AI is changing their day-to-day work. The conversation will cover how AFS provides access to the latest AI models in controlled environments, how the organization stays at the cutting edge of AI, and its partnerships with companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, and NVIDIA. Registration for this event is encouraged.
  • Monday, Sept. 21: Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)
    7-9 p.m., Litton Reaves 1670
    A general overview of different opportunities for student internships and full-time employment across CIA. There will be panelists that work in different areas of Agency recruiting and are available to answer questions from Hokies interested in a variety of career options at the Agency. Students contemplating summer internships should begin the application process as early as the end of freshman and rising sophomore year. Co-ops and Graduate fellow timelines will also be discussed. Full-time candidates need to be ready to apply 6-12 months ahead of graduation. We will also have a panelist from CIA Labs to talk about research collaboration.
